Book Review: The Alone Advantage

May 31, 2024

I finished listening to an Audiobook called, The Alone Advantage by Terri Savelle Foy recently and let me tell you, I absolutely LOVED this book! I want to encourage you to go and grab this book NOW! It was so good, I’m listening again and taking notes! 🙂

I gained some key insights from reading this book and gained an appreciation for Terri’s perspective on time alone and how it can truly positively impact an individual’s ability to succeed. As a health coach and nutrition specialist, I am always searching for ways to build up my personal and professional health and wellness tool kit, and let me tell you – TIME ALONE just got moved up on the tool kit list! In order to be successful at achieving your health goals and truly anything else you have in your heart to achieve, then it’s going to require you to take healthy time alone in order to listen to what is in your heart to do!

Here are some of my key insights and takeaways from The Alone Advantage: 10 Behind the Scenes Habits that Drive Crazy Success

      1. Dream BIG DREAMS and write them down! Writing down your dreams by putting pen to paper is the first step to really committing yourself to make a change in your life. If you write down your health goals, then you are more likely to strive to accomplish them.

      1. Journal it out! Now I have always been a big proponent of “writing my life” so to speak but I got out of the habit of doing so. This book reminded me of the importance of taking time to journal and write out things in my heart and life that needed to be expressed outside of just my own thoughts. I always encourage my clients to keep a health journal of some sort and bring it to virtual sessions so that they can take notes and write down key inspirations and insights they gain from the session. Expanding upon this principle, I believe that journaling routinely (ideally daily), can truly help you to get a clearer perspective on what you want in life and where you are within your own person physically, spiritually, and mentally. Journaling to God and presenting all of who you are to Him will help you to gain clarity in your life.

      1. Educate yourself to success! Now here at Nurture your Palate, I highly encourage health literacy. If you’ve ever been coached by me, then you know I am the resource queen and will come through with those follow up links that contain rich health information to educate you on pertinent things concerning your health and health goals! In knowledge there is power! Knowledge gives you the fuel to overcome certain health and wellness issues when they arise because it empowers you with the choice to choose better. Many of us have suffered from a lack of knowledge as it relates to certain areas in life, and while there may always be certain things we don’t know, placing yourself in position to learn can revolutionize your progress in health and life in general. I am reminded of a proverb that says, “…but through knowledge shall the just be delivered” (Proverbs 11:9b). How can you get deliverance and break through if you never knew you needed it? Educate yourself in the areas you need to in order to succeed in health and life!

      1. Be specific about the goals you want to obtain! You can’t become a sharp shooter by aiming all over a target. You must be specific in your aim in order to hit your target! What’s your target? Define your goals specifically and put a definite timeline in place to accomplish them so that you can make them happen! Anything is possible, but you must be specific about what you want!

      1. Get up early and Be Proactive! If you really want to achieve your health goals, then you are going to have to RISE EARLY and go for them! Don’t allow yourself to stay in a slump and hum drum along each day – get up and go do something for yourself early in the day – before the kids get up, before the spouse leaves for work, before the dog needs to go out, before the car pool and work demands begin. Begin your days by rising early and making time for yourself. Your life will change for the better!

      1. Be consistent! Accomplishing small goals or big goals in your health and in life require that you become consistent, diligent, and faithful to the habits that will help you to accomplish those goals. Don’t give up at the first sign of adversity, keep going!

      1. Success in private will set the stage for your public success! You are a success story waiting to happen!

It’s time for you to get The Alone Advantage
